Why you need mental strength as an entrepreneur to succeed

Have you ever wondered why most successful business leaders like Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos are so tough and seem to have always a solution to any problem that might occur ?  What makes someone a good athlete? Or a good leader? Or a good parent? Why do some people accomplish their goals while others fail?

Mental Strength is the Key

Intelligence is helpful if you want to be successful, but commitment and mental toughness are mandatory. Research studies have shown that intelligence only accounts for 30% of your achievement. So talent and intelligence might not play such a big role as you thought huh?  What makes a bigger impact than talent or intelligence? Mental toughness.

Your mental toughness — or “grit” as they call it — plays a more important role than anything else for achieving your goals in health, business, and life. How can you achieve such mental strength and will-power like those individuals ? I will cover this within this article soon. First of all why you need mental strength to run a successful business:

 

Mental strength eliminates self-doubts

Whether your ambition is to run a marathon, or your goal is to double your revenue, you’ll likely experience self-doubt at one time or another. Questioning your goal is a normal part of the attainment process.

But if your mentally strong you will overcome those self-doubts and keep grinding and working on your goal and most important towards your goal. The ability to reframe your negative self-talk so you can continue working toward your goal with increased confidence is the key.

Mental strength keeps you focused and motivated

Motivation and Focus waxes and wanes. It is easy though to stay motivated if your mentally strong. You will discover the inner strength you need when you’re tired or unambitious.

Mental strength let’s you keep working hard even on days you just don’t feel like it. On days you are willing to give up because it was all such a stupid plan and idea.

 

Mental strength lets you face your fears

Mental strength gives you the courage to face your fears head-on. I know stepping outside your comfort zone is difficult. It gives you the power to move forward even in hard times and when your obstacles seem huge.

 

Mental strength doesn’t let other people opinions drown out your own voice and decisions

Other people opinions can easily drown out your own voice and upset you. Mental strength will help you tune out the unhelpful criticism and bad advice. It will help you stay true to your values and proceed regardless of the voices around you.

Learning from your mistakes is a process that you really need to adopt and mental strength helps you with it. It helps you accept responsibility for your actions. With each fail or mistake you made and learned, you will grow one step closer toward reaching your goal.

 

Mental strength regulates your emotions

If your a leader or you want to be a leader and run your own business, being ambitious, passionate and dedicated are good emotions. But anger, jealousy and resentment aren’t. What have all major leaders in common? Right they are passionate and dedicated but can control their negative emotions.

This is crucial in business, even if you run your own blog.

 

Focus on your business, your actions and your goals !

It doesn’t matter what someone has achieved, you do not have the same path the same drive and goals like him. So there is no point in focusing on his career.

The weakness of most entrepreneurs is not a lack of motivation rather they focus to much on other people careers.

 

Now that you know what mental strength can change in your business life let’s dig deeper and go into details. But first understand one simple thing:

Mental Strength can make you unstoppable.

I’ve seen a lot of people beat the odds – because they were mentally so strong nothing could break them. Boiled down to its most basic elements, mental toughness comes down to two choices: to control your mind, or to let your mind control you. One of my favourite quotes is:

It is just so true mental strength helps you carry the load the right way and tune out every negative advice from people around you. Most young entrepreneurs fail because they handle the load the wrong way and listen to the wrong advice from people who want them to fail or just don’t know better.

If your mentally strong you don’t listen to the ney-sayers and turn your vision into todays future. Believe me 2 years ago I didn’t believe making a living through blogging is possible and now I am sitting in Marbelle and writing this Post :).  I don’t tell you this to brag – no – rather to motivate you and open your eyes.

 

How can you train your mental strength ( mind ) ?

 

There are a lot of approaches to train your mind and mental strength, bare with me that I can only cover a few in this article. But I will cover in my opinion the most useful strategies to enlarge your mind and mental strength.

 

 

Read

Reading is one of the best ways to gain knowledge and train your mind. It relieves stress and tension of the brain cells. Most importantly it can help you get a new perspective on things. Every major business leader like Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerburg read at least one book per month – you should too.

So what does reading do to your brain?

You might be surprised to find out exactly what happens in your head when you crack open a book. Has everyone ever told you the benefits of reading or what it actually does to your brain? Reading is perhaps one of the best hobbies in the world and one of the healthiest. Reading is not only educational and informative, it’s entertaining and relaxing, too.

It is a stress-reducing activity that can lower your heart rate and blood pressure. It  improves people’s memories, increase brain power, and even enhance empathic skills. Reading has been linked to longer life spans.

 

Arts and Crafts

Painting is fun and relaxing. But it is more than just fun. Science proves creative activities such as painting and handicrafts improve the functioning of the brain. Crafts can calm the mind and effectively treat depression. Hobbies like painting, dancing, or playing a musical instrument train your brain to stay focused. One of my favourite quotes:

Some think  that you are either born with talent — or not. Many are afraid that since they aren’t very good at something, there is no point and they won’t get any benefit from doing it. Start painting it is really fun you won’t regret it.

 

Sports

Sport activities have a huge positive impact on your mental health and brain power even if you won’t believe it – let me explain it to you. Sports improve your mood and concentration. Research has shown that doing a mix of aerobic and muscle-strengthening activities is especially helpful. Sports and other forms of physical activity improve the quality of sleep.

They do this by helping you fall asleep faster and deepening your sleep. Team sports such as soccer, baseball, and basketball are breeding grounds for leadership traits. So if you want to be your own boss and escape the rat race you need to be a leader.

 

so now We have covered how to train your brain, let’s focus on how to increase your mental strength in particular.

 

5 powerful ways to build your mental strength

 

Focus – keep your attention on the long-term outcomes and tune out every misdirection. Don’t focus on short goals like a fast car or the next vacation!

Patience – don’t rush things, nothing worth it comes easy or fast. There are no get rich quick schemes – nor build a succesful business overnight. It just won’t happen.

Strength under stress – developing your capacity to deal with stressful situations will help you maintain resilience in the face of negative pressures.

Emotional stability  – It’s important that you maintain your capacity to stay objective and deliver the same level of performance regardless of what you’re feeling.

The right attitude toward setbacks – Failure, unexpected events are all part of life especially of business life, mitigate the damage, learn the lessons that will help you in the future, and move on.

 

 

Conclusion:

Mental strength gives you the ability to stay calm and make the right decisions under pressure and tune out bad advice from the people around you. It let’s you stay persistent and dedicated. Mental strength increases your health level and let’s you be brave enough to take a risk and run a new business. It makes you emotinally stable and set your focus on the long term goals. Mental Strength seperates the leader from the sheeps and let’s you focus on your goals only.
